The RFID-AP project is structured into five technical areas, or work packages, with an underlying management/co-ordination component.

Project management will be undertaken by CEA-LETI. Within the scope of this work lies providing a project interface between the project and the ANR/SESUR office, ensuring sufficient co-ordination of the project activities, and over-seeing the dissemination of results.

The consortium for RFID-AP is deliberately small. This allows for a more efficient project and, something that is particularly important in RFID-AP, a close collaboration between all partners. As previously stated, one of the significant strengths of the RFID-AP project is that the theoreticians will work closely with those working on implementation and this is something that is enhanced within a small consortium.

However, even small consortia need efficient project coordination. This will be provided in RFID-AP with the help of two management structures:

§         A Project Management Committee (PMC) consisting of the project leaders of each partner. This committee will meet every quarter, under the chairmanship of the project co-ordinator, and oversee the progress of the project. Due to strong relations and overlapping between the work packages 2, 3 and 4, the PMC meetings will be alternate between coordination and project management meetings and inter work package meetings devoted to technical issues with an enlarged technical attendance from different WPs.

§         A series of Work Package Committees (WPC). These committees will consist of selected researchers from within each work package and will be managed by a nominated WP leader from one of the project partners. Technical meetings for each work package will be scheduled according to requirements, but it is anticipated that this will be at least once every quarter. Given that the content of the work packages are often inter-related, the members of the different WPCs will not necessarily be distinct. This will help to promote the cohesion of the project.

In any project there are risks that the research or technical work does not go according to schedule or that the work of others outside the project affects the viability of ongoing research.

Within RFID-AP, it is anticipated that the strong cumulative experience will do much to mitigate such possibilities. Furthermore, the very strong partnerships that all the consortium members have with other research centres around the world means that the research within RFID-AP will continue to be relevant and timely.

Any technical risks that are identified will be identified by the WPCs and presented to the PMC. The PMC will propose appropriate solutions and make adjustments accordingly.
